Darwin considered the volume a short abstract of the ideas he'd been developing about evolution by natural selection for decades. In 1859, Darwin didn’t take the opposition lying down. He sought to persuade “all the most eminent living naturalists and geologists” who opposed him to change their view. He did so by appealing to them in several ways. Two are especially relevant today. First, Darwin reviewed the facts that he cited in support of his case.
